5 Cool Features About The PS5 UI That We’re Excited For

PlayStation revealed the PS5 UI…

PlayStation revealed the PS5 UI earlier today and to say it was a much-needed refresh would be a massive understatement. But the new UI is more than just a pretty face, it has some helpful features that improve upon the PS4’s experience is several major ways. While there are a plethora of reasons why this was a good move, here are five cool features about the PS5 UI that we think players will enjoy.

Spoiler Warnings

Spoilers are getting harder and harder to avoid thanks to the entire internet. They suck sometimes, but Sony is looking to help combat accidental reveals or malicious spoils. With the new Spoiler Warning feature, if one person sends another player a screenshot or clip of a game, Sony places a disclaimer on it before the recipient opens up the contents of the received message. This allows the other player to decide if they are willing to risk the share, or if they are wanting to go full puritan regarding a game of choice.

Not too shabby.

4K Sharing

Speaking of sharing screenshots and clips, another improvement made is all captured screenshots and video will automatically be in 4K, as long as the game itself is 4K compatible. This makes sharing those in-game moments even sweeter, especially given the fact that every game and its mother now offers a Photo Mode (as should be the norm).

This also makes posting those favorite shots to social media even sweeter, even if Facebook insists on destroying image quality no matter what.

Control Center

The Control Center is another aspect of the new UI that seemed to be a big hit online after the reveal. This allows players to access notifications, friends lists, settings, and more without having to back out of the game and return to the home screen. Instead, a bar will populate that gives access to various options to choose from without having to hit a loading screen.

This is part of the revamp that both Xbox and PlayStation is doing regarding more time gaming, less time loading.

Game Help

Tips and tricks guides online? Who need ’em? Sony is making it easier to find the help players want without ever having to leave their game. This feature is only for PS Plus members, but we’re calling it now: it’s going to be a huge hit with Fortnite and Apex players when doing those challenges.

Whether it’s a battle royale challenge, help looking for a specific quest item, or just wanting a little additional assistance, this option will pull up a small pop up window that allows players to look up help regarding in-game locations and even video tips. For video, you still won’t have to leave your game, it’ll populate in the card on the edge of the screen.

Activities

Speaking of knowing what’s going on in a game, Activities are also a UI addition that players will find useful. Basically, how this works is that there are Cards that reference Activities in the previously mentioned Control Center. This little Card will give players info on their games to assist in trophy completion, objective progress, and current status.

“Activities are displayed via on-screen cards in the Control Center, which enables you to discover new gameplay opportunities, go back to things you missed, jump directly into levels or challenges you want to play, and much more,” Sony revealed when discussing this feature during the reveal. “Some Activity cards can be put in picture-in-picture mode, so you can view them without having to leave the game.”

This feature will also make it easier for those like me that have a complete goldfish brain: it makes it easier to jump back into a game and resume previous goals without having to scramble like a chicken with their head cut off.

There are other features, of course, to look forward to. Being able to hop in a game super quick with friends is an added bonus. It’s much simpler (and faster) to squad up before a match. Communication has also been revamped to be even easier, especially in terms of sharing content. Share a video, share a screen, without having to stop what you are watching or playing. Even if you’re bad at multitasking like I am, PS5 makes it easy.

We’ll be able to dive all in with thehttps://www.gameinformer.com/2020/09/18/ps5-preorders-may-not-arrive-on…; next generation of PlayStation and see that lovely PS5 UI ourselves when the new console launches on November 12.
